OUT NOW Scott Clark - Dawn & Dusk (OOYH 021)

ANNOUNCING our first album of four Fall releases, Scott Clark - Dawn & Dusk (OOYH 021), his follow-up to the incredible solo drumset record on OOYH from January 2021, out August 25 2023 on LP + CD + Digital. This is the first record simultaneously released as a studio and live album, something the label plans to explore on future records as well. Dawn & Dusk was recorded in the studio while it was still nearly impossible to perform live as a result of the pandemic. Once the suite was able to be presented in concert, it took on a new life and sections opened up where the sextet could further explore improvisations. An incredible live performance was captured with high quality audio seven months after the studio album was recorded, and we immediately realized it needed to be a part of the release. The first streaming track, Above the Gray (live) is from the live half of the album, and shows how the band is able to open more in regards to improvising in a live context.

Dawn & Dusk is:

Laura Ann Singh - vocals
Bob Miller - trumpet, flugelhorn
J.C. Kuhl - bass clarinet, tenor saxophone
Michael McNeill - piano
Adam Hopkins - bass
Scott Clark - drums, composition

It is worth noting that this is the first release of our nearly 30 albums that features both label curators, Scott Clark and Adam Hopkins, performing together. Since Hopkins moved to Richmond in late 2018, he and Clark have been the core rhythm section for countless improvised units, and are regularly brought into a project together for their unique way of playing time. Their special bass/drums connection is immediately recognizable on Dawn & Dusk. As with his previous release on the label, the artwork and design was a close collaboration between Scott Clark and our in-house artist TJ Huff. The original painting Dawn & Dusk is heavily incorporated into all of the design, and is an inspired visual representation of the music. Dawn & Dusk releases August 25 2023 on OOYH Records on LP (studio album only), CD, and digital. The CD and digital albums include the full 8 tracks of studio and live albums.
