Adam o’Farrill

Brooklyn-born trumpeter and composer Adam O’Farrill has become one of the defining voices of contemporary jazz, earning recognition from The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, NPR, and international critics. A descendant of the illustrious O’Farrill musical family, Adam bridges that legacy with his own innovative approach, performing with leading artists such as Hiromi, Mary Halvorson, Vijay Iyer, Tyshawn Sorey, Patricia Brennan and Mulatu Astatke. As a leader, he has developed a distinctive body of work—most prominently with his long-running quartet, Stranger Days—garnering major critical acclaim including the Preis Der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik, multiple DownBeat Critics Poll wins, and Best-of-the-Year nods from major publications.

Across the last several years, O’Farrill has released a string of ambitious albums that underline his evolution as a bandleader and composer. His 2024 quartet album HUESO was praised as “strikingly original,” while his 2025 octet suite For These Streets marked his most expansive compositional statement to date. His work is characterized by bold orchestration, narrative-driven writing, and a commitment to pushing the language of jazz into new territory. Alongside his own recordings, he has been a featured collaborator on a wide range of notable projects, contributing to albums by Mary Halvorson, Hiromi, Patricia Brennan, Kevin Sun, and many others.

From 2022 through the present, Adam’s performance schedule has been remarkably active, encompassing extensive touring in the U.S., Europe, and Asia with both his own groups and major international ensembles, most notably Mary Halvorson's Amaryllis and Hiromi's SONICWONDER bands. His engagements span world-renowned venues and festivals—Blue Note Tokyo, Jazz em Agosto, Newport Jazz Festival, Big Ears, Barbican Centre, and SFJAZZ among them—along with high-profile commissioning residencies at Roulette, Kaatsbaan, AMR Geneva, and the Hermitage Artist Retreat. Looking ahead to 2026, Adam will release his sixth album, ELEPHANT, lead a European tour, appear at NYC Winter Jazzfest, and continue performing globally with collaborators including Hiromi, Mary Halvorson, Patricia Brennan, Tyshawn Sorey and more.
